Jizzwick's Putt Putt Golf

Think mini golf is an activity reserved for vacations? No way! Nothing screams summer more than a round of mini golf on our spectacular 19 hole course. That's right, we do the major golf courses one better with our amazing 19th hole, where you can win real prizes if you are good enough.

Jizzwick's is set up as a whole adventure of putt putt, starting out at the seaport and ending up as you escape from cannibals deep in the jungle. Our classic safari movie adventure themed course will have you hopping from one exotic location to to another as you move through the course. Can you beat the Tiki Gods and win the whole game?

Can you survive the tunnels? Navigate the rapids? Avoid the native's spears? Brave the rickety bridge over the crock-infested river? Take your best shot and see if your ball finds it's way to the hole.

Come on down to Jizzwick's Putt Putt Golf and play a round. We have reasonable rates, outdoor food court, family, student and group discounts, season passes, and gift certificates available. Ask about our party rental rates and available dates.

Located at 208 Kirkwood Ave. Near the Pendleton Coliseum.
Open 10 AM to 9 PM all Summer
Noon to 6 PM in the Spring and Fall
Closed Winters

Exact dates subject to change due to seasonal weather patterns and tourist activity levels. Unless sudden weather causes closures, all changes will be posted at least one week before they go into effect (usually at least two). Contact the head office with any questions or requests regarding business hours or special events.

And I'm back on and able to update (with pictures) again... so I put up a quick News story to show it works and celebrate. Hopefully soon I will be adding a longer story or article of some kind... Plus the puppets can comment again.

Ordered my new computer. It should be arriving soon. Once it's all set up and everything is reinstalled I should be good to go. Then I can start working on some updates and keep things moving here again. I'm sure it will still be relatively slow going but at least it will be going again.

Just wanted to give an update.

Posting this from my phone. Way to hard to do long posts or do anything with pictures involved. Should have enough to get a new one here soon. But I can't be (and obviously haven't been) updating while I am on this mobile only device. Just thought you all should know what's going on.

Love the new Freshman's Tale, btw. Great work.

The number of fake accounts being created is growing at an exponential rate. I came home to over 1000 new accounts to delete since yesterday... that's less than 24 hours.

The only thing I can do at the moment is shut down registration for the moment and let all the spambots hit the wall. After a while they will stop trying to join and aim their efforts elsewhere. I will also seek out security options to make joining safer and harder for spambots.

If you are reading this and want to have an account added, email the admin of this site (the email should be obvious) and request one. I set it up personally and email you back the log-in information. Won't be as fast and easy as automated sign-up, but it works.

Then, at some point in the near future (possibly after Christmas) I will reopen registration.

The forum based classifieds are up and integrated. They are their own section and have a different forum for each category. All the previous classifieds have been transferred over and set to the correct dates and users.

You will also see that all posts replying to them should be attached to the correct categories and everything (including the people they were posted by). Most noticeable in the Tan-Lines thread in the Items For Sale/Trade section. That single classified post had 47 replies I had to transfer over.

Classified Changing

I am slowly doing the process of converting the Classifieds section over to be part of the forums. That should make it easier to create them, reply to them, and notice them. It will also add a large section to the Forums (which I am placing below the Student Affairs section and the Behind The Scenes section).

The thing is I want to do it right, which means I don't want to lose everything that's already in the existing classified. Unfortunately, the format the classifieds (known as SmartSection and uses the xoops build in comments for replies) is laid out in is not directly convertible to the forums format (which is built on the more well constructed newbb engine).

That means I have to manually copy/paste each entry and reply to the forums, and then go into the mySQL database to change the poster ID (and related) information so they better match what was previously existing. That way all the shifted over posts won't appear to be posted by me all on the same day, but by who originally posted them. I've already done the Roommate and Housing section (to see how long it's going to take) and that small section (16 posts and 4 replies) took nearly three hours. So it will be a little while before it's all done.

You shouldn't see any of these posts as I work on it (since I've hidden the new forum section form view to all but admins), but in case you see something odd happen I wanted to let you know what's going on. If you do happen to see the forums or odd posts before I make the official switch over, please let me know so I can figure out why.

In the meantime, feel free to post in the existing classifieds still if you have need. The last thing I will do before closing it down is convert any new posts that came in (including my own). I will then close that section and simply have it as part of the forums.

Here I thought that 100 new accounts a day was bad... For the last two weeks or so I've been slammed with over 300 (sometimes as as high as 500) new accounts being made a day.

I don't even bother checking them for signs of life any more. If I don't see them being activated and then posting on the forums or making a comment elsewhere immediately after activation, I just delete them. I can't sift through them all and see if any of them are just real people wanting to lurk.

State of the Site Update

Although there was a lot of trouble getting it to happen in the first place, everything seems to be hunky dory now that the site has been updated. There were a few hiccups at first, but they were easily handled once I found them. I am looking forward to this version of the software working for years again now.

Although posting is relatively slow right now, the people we do have posting are doing a great job and I always enjoy reading what they have to say. I also know that several former regular posters have been visiting the site recently to look in on things. I just hope some of them choose to post again soon. It sure would be nice to see some things from them too.

The only negative news I have is about the bots that keep joining the site. I get well over 100 new accounts a day (and almost 100% of them are not real people), which requires me to delete over 100 accounts a day or get a database overloaded with dead (possibly preparing to spam) accounts. Doesn't take too long, but it is annoying. Especially all the emails I get all day telling me a new person joined the site. (BTW: 3 more just joined while I was writing this.)

I had some good luck today and got all three parts working on the test server... so I backed up the site and copied over the working update... let's see if it holds steady and works.

Please let me know if you see any strange crashes, broken areas, or other odd activity. I know there will be bugs, but I hope nothing catastrophic. So keep me updated if you see anything acting odd.

Second wave of testing did not go as well... First and second attempts at getting things working without problems failed (once just the forums and the other time both the forums and the classifieds). I have to try different versions of the software in different configurations now, which is time consuming and I have limited time to do this in. Hopefully I will get a chance to do some more serious testing in the next couple weeks, but I'm not sure... so I don't know when I will be able to get it all working again.

Until then, I will leave the site the way it is and let you guys keep going with your great stories in the forums. I just won't be able to update the main part of the site at all until I get this sorted out (which sucks because I had the next spotlight and some other things ready to go when I discovered this problem). Keep up the great work, I've been reading it all (even if I haven't had time to reply or play along).

Odd Problems since the update...

For some reason I can't edit the main part of the site right now. Something about the wiki part went bad. I may have to make more updates, but I want to experiment offsite to make sure it won't be likely to cause catastrophic problems for the site.

But that means it will be a while before I get to update anything but the forums or classifieds. Just thought I would let you all know.

UPDATE

First day of testing seems to be going well. I should be able to update the main framework of the site and the wiki I use without any problems. I now have to make sure those updates won't cause problems with the forums or classified. (or I might also have to update one or both of those as well.)

Thanks for pointing those out. If you ever see any other "blank" posts anywhere (your or others), let me know and I will check on them too. All the information still seems to be in the database, but it might not be accessing certain parts for one reason or another.

In this case it was a single character in each post that caused them to error out. For some reason the new arrangement doesn't like the accented letter "e" that is common in some foreign words. You had one of these words in each of those three posts (and not the same word in each one). All I had to do was replace the accented e with a normal e and they came back just fine.

I would give examples here, but then this post wouldn't show. They do work in the classifieds section though, so it's only the forums. At least until I update the forums I would suggest not using the accented e (or possibly other odd characters).

EDITS

Also discovered that the "bullet" character (looks like an o, but is solid) does the same thing. I used one in the "Forum Rules" post and it was blank too. Replaced them with asterisks ( * ) and it showed up again.

Another one... The m-dash (a dash the length of the letter M) does it too.

The single character ellipse (three periods together) also causes it. Three separate periods is fine, though.

Okay, I have migrated to the new DB and things seem to be working okay... Let me know if you see anything that doesn't work or seems broken, please let me know here in the forums, in a PM, or email me at (admin at this domain) if you can't get on.

If you posted anything in the last hour or so it may have been lost in the migration as I had to first backup what was there then move the backup before I connected to it... so the site was still using the old DB briefly without being backed up during this transition was worked out. That was Friday around Midnight Easter time (9 PM Pacific, where Central U is located) in the US.

The hosting service I use is changing what they offer and will no longer be supporting the type of database this site is built to run on. They have instructions on how to upgrade to the newer version, but don't guarantee it will work with the CMS you use (in this case xoops 2). That means I have to experiment on another one of my sites and hope it all goes well. Then try and upgrade this place and hope it continues to function as is. If not I will have to do a lot of work to rebuild it in a new CMS. I don't want to lose anything, so wish me luck.

I am being hit with over 100 new joins per day right now and they are proving to all be fake accounts setting up for spam. I have to keep deleting them before they can cause trouble (and quickly delete the posts they do manage to put up first).

The main problem is that nearly all of them are from generic hotmail and outlook accounts, so I can't really wide ban them without banning everyone who uses outlook or hotmail. I also don't really want to install one of things that makes joining the site harder, as that just mostly annoys real people who want to join and doesn't bother the spammers (who quickly write ways around them).

This is getting frustrating and taking up an inordinate amount of my time. I would love to be more active right now, but any free time I seem to find is used up by dealing with these automated jackasses. If this gets worse I might have to shut down joining for a brief while in hopes of getting them to stop trying. That has worked in the past, but again I don't like doing that.

I thought I would share and let those who come here know what's going on, in case you see the posts or activity that causes disruptions.
